Tokyo Edition
The core of this distribution area is metropolitan Tokyo.  In terms of population, numbers of corporate headquarters and offices, and most other measures, the Tokyo metropolitan region is the center of Japan.  In addition, the distribution area of the Tokyo edition includes the Tohoku (northeastern) area.  All of these factors mean that it covers an extremely broad distribution area.

Hokkaido Edition
Hokkaido, Japan's largest autonomous administrative unit (do), is a fairly distinctive region within Japan.  It is the home of industries that can take advantage of its very cold climate, and local industries and products play a very active role in Hokkaido's economy.

Osaka Edition
The core of this distribution area is Osaka.  Forming a discrete economic and cultural block within Japan, it is famous for its distinctive history and traditions.  As Japan's second-largest city, it is a key area.

Seibu Edition
This distribution area is centered on Fukuoka, the largest city in Kyushu.  Consisting of six prefectures, Kyushu is known for its thriving agriculture, forestry, and fishing industries.  Surrounding Fukuoka are many prosperous and long-standing manufacturing communities.  Today, the area is still known for its unique cultural foundations.

Nagoya Edition
Nagoya, Japan's third-largest city after Tokyo and Osaka, is the core of this distribution area.  Because of the area's large population, numerous businesses, corporate headquarters, and branch offices, it is economically significant and should not be overlooked.

National Edition
The Asahi Shimbun is distributed in five local editions corresponding to five sales regions covering Japan.  Each of the five local editions carries original/local news articles in addition to nationwide content that is common to every edition.
