One distinguishing characteristic of Japanese newspapers is that most newspaper
companies publish both morning and evening editions under the same name.
Some papers are published in only evening editions; however, these are generally
sports- and leisure-oriented tabloids with sections high in entertainment value.
The morning edition has greater circulation than the evening edition.
In other words, there are regions in which both the morning and evening editions
are delivered as a set, and other regions in which only the morning edition is
delivered. Morning-evening subscription sets generally cover metropolitan
areas.
- Features of morning editions
Morning editions offer comprehensive
editorial content ranging from sections on politics, business/economic,
international, and other "hard" news to lifestyle sections,
sports and entertainment, and other "soft" news. They
have a broad readership, led by businesspeople.
- Features of evening editions
Evening editions are full of daily life-related content and
entertainment news aimed primarily at homemakers and businesspeople
who have returned home and want to relax.
